WAEC: Abia Students Get Scholarship From Gov Ikpeazu

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has congratulated students of the state who wrote the 2017 West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) for emerging overall best performers in the WAEC examination.

Ikpeazu also directed the newly inaugurated state scholarship board to ensure that “the best performing student from each of the 17 local government areas is given tertiary education scholarship to study in any school in Nigeria”.

This is contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, on Thursday.

The Governor applauded the students and their teachers for a job well done and vowed to prioritize the welfare of teachers within the state’s school system.

He assured that his administration will continue to work hard to ensure that the state maintains its prime position in education in Nigeria.

Ikpeazu re-stated his commitment to construct new model schools that are equipped with modern learning tools and resources across the state before the end of the year.

WAEC released the 2017 May/June WASSCE results on Monday.

13.79% of the candidates that wrote the exams had their results withheld, while a 59.22% pass in English Language and Mathematics was recorded.

Group Calls for Withdrawal of Andy Uba’s Certificate of Return over Alleged Forgery

A group under the aegis of Coalition of Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (CNYGG) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate rerun issued to Andy Ubah, the senator representing Anambra south.

The group said Ubah’s certificate of return should be withdrawn from him over the allegation of falsification of his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate.

Speaking while leading protesters at the INEC headquarters on Wednesday, Peace Dimoji, convener of CNYGG, said it was necessary for the commission to take action so that falsification of results would not set a precedent for the younger generation.

After addressing those who gathered, Dimoji presented the petition addressed to Mahmoud Yakubu, INEC chairman.

“With profound respect sir, Coalition of Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (CNYGG) a synergy between proactive and diligent Nigerian youth who believe in Nigeria, who are concerned and interested in their affairs, especially in their representation in issues of governance in Nigeria.

“It is based on this that we bring to your attention, a case of deceit and falsification of results perpetrated on your esteemed commission by Mr Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba, senator representing Anambra south senatorial zone in the national assembly, with an aim to mislead the electorate.

“The above allegations were disclosed by a private investigator, which correspondence we hereby attach as evidence, specifically one reply by the West African Examinations Council dated 12/02/2014 by O.M Adebayo, the deputyregistrar confirming that the qualification presented INEC by the mentioned senator was never issued by WAEC, and that even the signature thereon was absolutely falsified.

“Sir, it is in the light of the foregoing that we immediately call for an urgent intervention of your office into this criminal act, not only to save the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria but also to nip in the bud, the new breeding version of falsification and deceit amongst politicians representing their electorate, before it grows into a ‎full circle and organised dubious practice/precedent for the younger generation.

“Finally sir, it is our humble prayer and submission ‎that the certificate of return of the aforementioned individual be immediately withdrawn and your‎ recommendations to the Nigerian Police Force for ‎ his immediate prosecution.”
