Obasanjo Is Plotting To Assassinate Nnamdi Kanu - IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is plotting to assassinate its leader, Nnamdi Kanu through military coup.

He said the coup will also overthrow the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

IPOB claimed that Obasanjo plots to use the military to create coup that will lead to the assassination of Kanu.

The group made the allegation while reacting to call by Obasanjo that Kanu should be made to put a stop to his agitation for Biafra.

In a statement sent to DAILY POST by spokesperson of the group, Emma Powerful, the group said Obasanjo’s remark is a “systematic way of telling the whole world that he has plans on the way to overthrow this present Government”, adding that this is the “only possible means he can justify the assassination of Nnamdi Kanu and others who are calling for the restoration of Biafra.”

See full statement below:

The members of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide and it’s leadership worldwide wish to put the whole world on notice of the call by the two times former president of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to assassinate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra through the Military coup.

We are drawing the attention of the well meaning civilised society across the globe that Obasanjo have decided to put Nigeria into coax by calling Nigeria Army to plot a coup in Nigeria to justify his call to assassinate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other members of IPOB who are bent in using peaceful means to restore Biafra.

The call by Olusegun Obasanjo is to repeat the scenario of 1966 massacre of Biafrans especially the Igbos living in Northern and Western parts of Nigeria before the war of genocide broke out against the people of Biafra between 1967 and 1970.

Since the inception of IPOB and emergence of Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu we have maintained the nonviolent posture towards the restoration of Biafra, IPOB have never killed any fly rather the Federal Government of Nigeria and her security operatives have been killing the innocent members of IPOB and Bisfrans without provocation.

IPOB and Biafrans are not calling for war or any confrontation with Nigeria Government, individual or group, what we are requesting is referendum to ascertain whether the people of Biafra would choose to remain in Nigeria or not.

Again and to ascertain if the people of Biafra will choose to remain with the humiliation, killing, sufferings in Nigeria. All the civilized world knew the meaning of self determination and referendum that it cannot become a call for war rather it is legal means in the United Nations charter which suppose to be honoured by any member country including Nigeria Government and her politicians like Obasanjo and others.

This call by Olusegun Obasanjo to stop Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members worldwide is a systematic way of telling the whole world that he had plans on the way to over throw this present Government and the only possible means he can justify the assassination of Nnamdi Kanu and others who are calling for the restoration of Biafra, but if anything happen to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others or military take over in Nigeria the whole world will hold Olusegun Obasanjo and cohorts responsible.

With this we are calling on United Nations UN, African Union AU, European Union EU, ECOWAS, USA Government, Russia Government, Israeli Government, French Government, Canada, Australia, Chinese Government, British Government, Japan, Amnesty International, Human Right Watch, other relevant human rights organizations across the globe and the people of good concience in the whole universe to be aware of the statements credited to former president of Nigerian Chief Olusegu Obasanjo.

Forget About Biafra, Obasanjo Tells Nnamdi Kanu

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed calls by those advocating the division of the country through the creation of a sovereign Biafra State.

He appealed to those advocating for the division of the country to purge their minds of such notions.

Obasanjo made the call in Kano yesterday when he visited Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje at the Government House to commiserate with the people of Kano over the death of Maitama Sule.

He described Nigeria as a land of prosperity where the citizens must continue to learn from each other, live in peace and be each other’s keeper.

The former President said: ‘”I encourage all Nigerians to look forward towards a future as a united country flowing with milk and honey.

“Nigeria is a country where everyone is a stakeholder, the thought of a divisible Nigeria should disappear from the minds of those leading such a campaign.

“Nigerians need to learn from Maitama Sule’s experience, wisdom and what he believed and preached.”

Obasanjo, who extolled the virtues of Maitama Sule, described the late Danmasanin Kano as a patriotic Nigerian whose shoes would be difficult to fill.

He stated that the likes of the former diplomat and elder statesman are rare, and that of those still alive, very few are of his quality.

He identified such honest and exceptional statesmen who are revered like the late Maitama Sule to include former President Shehu Shagari, Sule Gaya and Richard Akinjide.

He further stated that the death of Maitama Sule was a loss to all Nigerians, and that everyone should be condoled over the loss.

The two-time Head of State urged all Nigerians to emulate the late statesman by rendering the type of services Nigeria benefited from him.

I have No Apology For Retiring Military Officers In 1999 – Obasanjo

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has said he has no apology for retiring officers of the Nigerian military, who had been exposed to politics in 1999.

Obasanjo explained that his decision was to preserve the country’s nascent democracy.
He stated this on Tuesday at the public presentation of a book entitled: “The First Regular Combatant: Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, OFR” in Abuja. The book written by Haruna Yahaya.

Obasanjo added that easing out military officers who have the assistance of political office holders, will prevent Nigeria from another war.

His words: “I have no apology, but I have explanations; it is because it is necessary to stop the sort of thing that took the life of your father prematurely that I had to take decision that all those that have tasted of power that they should never have tasted of political offices while they were soldiers; that we should ease them out of the army so that we can have an army that will be completely free from political aberration.

“And so far, since 1999, I think we seem to have got it right. Let us hope that we will continue to get it right and learn the right lessons that Nigeria has had enough sacrifices by those victims; that Nigeria deserves peace, unity and democracy. And may the sacrifices of the life of Brig. Zak Maimalari be sufficient to give this country peace, development, unity and progress.

“The lesson we can learn is that we have had enough tragedy in this country; the Nigerian Army, particularly, has had the unfortunate situation where officers this country has spent a lot of money to train and who had been of great service to this country and to the Nigerian Army, had to be cut out in the prime of their life. Our lesson should be that this should never happen again.”

Obasanjo Explains Why Nnamdi Kanu Must Be Stopped

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that Nigerians must do everything possible to stop the agitation for Biafra led by Nnamdi Kanu.

He stressed that failure to do so could lead to a repeat of the 1966 coup and the events that led to unprecedented bloodshed in the country.

He said this at the International Conference Centre, Abuja during the launch of the biography of late Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari on Tuesday.

According to Obasanjo, the top most lessons for Nigerians to learn from unfolding events in the country are that the nation has had enough of tragedies.

“What lesson can we learn? The lesson we can learn is that we have had enough tragedies in this country.
“So far, since 1999, it seems that we have got it right. Let us hope that we continue to get it right and learn that Nigeria has had enough of bloodshed, enough of sacrifices by those victims, that Nigeria deserves peace, unity and progress,” Obasanjo asserted.

The two-time Head of State also gave reasons for some of the decision taken by his government in his second coming as civilian president in 1999

He said he decided to retire Maimalari’s son who was the then Military Administrator of Jigawa State for certain reasons.

Obasanjo said: “I have no apology but I have explanation. It’s because it’s necessary to stop this sort of things that took the life of your father prematurely, that we had to take the decision that all those who have tasted power, that they should never have tasted, of political office that we should ease them out of the Army so that we can have an Army that is free from political aberration.”

Why ECOWAS Leaders Should Adopt "ECO" As Their Common Currency - Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has asked the leaders of the Economic Community of West African States to settle on common currency.

He said the development would boost the trade of the region and Africa at large.

Obasanjo made this call at the ongoing 24th Annual General Meeting of the African Export-Import Bank in Kigali.

The former Nigerian president noted that the issue of common currency was getting delayed because the regional leaders had earlier settled for “ECO” as a name for the currency but wondered why it had not been adopted.

According to him, the adoption of currency was needed to move the current level of the regional trade from 25 percent to more than 50 percent.

According to him, the various currency zones like the Naira zone, the Cedi zone, among others should not be allowed to mitigate the flow of trade within the region.

He said that in the case of The Gambia, ECOWAS leaders agreed that a military option should be adopted but it should be without firing a bullet.

“I was sure the ousted president Yahya Jammeh will leave but when he started delaying ECOWAS leaders met, it was agreed a military option should be adopted.

“The tactics worked and when the countries leaders were saying the ousted president Yahya Jammeh had left the country with huge sums of money. I told them to allow him go with the money so far he allows the country to remain in peace,” he said.

He said the region had been most democratic region going by free and fair elections done in the countries.

Biafra: Okupe Questions The Silence Of Obj, IBB, Others

A former aide to the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has urged Nigerians to pray for the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo because he needs “wisdom from God” to handle the agitation for Biafra.

The former aide questioned why past leaders have refused to talk about the agitation in order to address some of the grievances raised. Those he blamed for remaining silent are Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim
Babangida, Abdulsam Abubakar and TY Danjuma.

He made the remark while reacting to a video in which Igbo youths in their thousands besieged the compound of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, chanting “give us Biafra, give us Biafra.”

In a statement he signed, the former Presidential aide berated the federal government for not taking the issue of Biafra seriously.

He accused the government of pushing the Igbo people to the wall by not treating them fairly in the scheme of things in Nigeria.

Okupe also faulted the Presidency for not inviting Kanu during the recent consultation with leaders of thoughts from the South-East region.

He accused the federal government of making bad judgment when it comes to the situation of the Igbo people.

The statement reads, “There is indeed a “god” in Abuja. He is a very prideful and powerful god and his head office is in the Villa, the seat of power.

“Unlike Jehovah God, it does not give liberty to his subjects to exercise their will. He is captivating, imposing and compelling, forcing his will at random on his subjects and their subordinates.

“During President Obasanjo’s tenure, a very senior minister and a distinguished gentleman, during a period of national crisis, got up and with all his weight slammed the Presidents table and retorted vociferously ” Mr President, after God in this country, it is you, your word is law.!” When I heard that statement I knew it was god of Abuja that was speaking through the Hon. minister.

“Abuja itself is a Jerusalem of some sort. For as mountains souround Jerusalem, so they also souround Abuja, Also making it a naturally fortified city and giving a sense of comfort and safety to its Inhabitants . ( I pray my brother Femi fanikayode does not read this piece. if he does he will call me definitely to correct me about the comparison between the Holy city of Jerusalem and Abuja!!)

“The Abuja god and the water tight security of Abuja often times make the custodians of power make inadvertent misjudgements about the situations elsewhere in the country. And I should know haven been a victim and witness to such misjudgements several times while around the corridors of power.
“This morning I could not withhold the tears from my eyes when I saw the video of thousands of ibos, mostly youths, waving Biafran Flags and chanting in Nnamdi Kanu’s compound “all we are saying is give us Biafra”
“I cried because I empathised with them and I wondered how we managed to push a people to such a position of hopelessness and despair. I also fearfully wondered if by any act of commission or omission I have played any role in this ignoble act (s).

“Last week I wrote an open letter to the acting President . one of my recommendations was that the federal government meets with IPOB leadership and southeast stakeholders. “Unfortunately the God of Abuja speaking through the Ag. President said” the IPOB leaders are not members of the leaders if thought in the southeast.

“Yet in a country with a sitting government, the IPOB Leadership gives a sit at home order and it is obeyed in totality by the entire Igbo Nation.

“It has come to a sad point today that the IGBO and the actions or inaction of Prof Yemi Osinbajo will define the future of Nigeria.

“Yet I believe that there are still living legends of our time in this country who can move in to stop this dangerous insidious slipping into darkness.

“Why is obasanjo quiet? why is there no sound from IBB? What happened to soldier turned diplomat, Gen Abdusalam? Not a word from Gen Danjuma, Gen Gowon, Adamu Ciroma “Alex Ekweme, Chief Akinjide, Alani Akinriade and others?????

“If all the above elders and leaders who know the ropes stand aloof, why can’t the Ag. President take counsel from them privately and individually and deliver himself from the god of Abuja who always misleads his subjects until they are removed one way or the other.

“This is no longer an Igbo affair. It is a total NIGERIAN PROBLEM. Lets all put hands and heads together and find a solution, any peaceful solution before this impending National disaster overtakes our nation.

“In the meantime let the rest of the nation go on our knees and pray for Prof Osinbajo that the God of creation, who is greater than all other gods and who has saddled him, as Ag. President with the responsibility to lead the country at this time to give him the divine wisdom courage and genuine helpers to see our nation through these difficult times.”
