The Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said people
see him as being controversial because he does things other people dread due to
lack of courage and fear.
Delivering a convocation lecture at the Benson Idahosa
University (BIU) in Benin yesterday, he said he would continue to play politics
that would engender good governance in the country.
According to Fayose, Nigerians made a mistake voting
for President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said had reached the stage of
diminishing returns at the time he was voted into power.
“You can only give your best at your best. Our president is
at diminishing returns as at today, I should be quoted,” he said.
Fayose noted that the time for young Nigerians to pilot the
affairs of the nation is now, adding, “Under my watch as Governor, nobody above
50 will become a council chairman while the maximum age for a councilor is 35
years.”
He accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC-led
government of playing politics in the fight against corruption, saying “actual
thieves in the country are in Buhari’s government”.
Fayose noted that no meaningful achievements would be
recorded in the educational sector unless teachers are placed on the driver’s
seat, saying,
“Teachers remain the only solution to the revival of
education. Education is currently at its lowest ebb in Nigeria.”
