The Ahmed Makarfi-led Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has
insisted on the unity and peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians; stressing
that the integration of all regions in the country remains a priority that must
be pursued by all citizens irrespective of socio-cultural differences.
This was stated in an Eid-el-Fitri message signed and issued
by Chinwe Nnorom – the Head of PDP’s Publicity Division – on behalf of the
Publicity Secretary of the Party’s National Caretaker Committee, Dayo Adeyeye
According to the PDP, all citizens must eschew violence and
stop all forms of provocative utterances that are capable of disintegrating us
and detrimental to our peace and oneness.
The Party also urged Nigerians not to despair over the
economic hardship that has made this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration low-keyed
but to continue pray to for God’s intervention.
The Eid-el Fitri message reads: “the Peoples’ Democratic
Party (PDP) led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi’s Natonal Caretaker Committee, on
behalf of the entire Organs of the Party and its Family nationwide,
congratulate Nigerians on the Occasion of the Holy Festival of Eid El-Fitr.
“Eid-El-Fitr Celebration which marks the End of Ramadan
Season, affirms man’s commitment and total submission to the Will of God. We
call on our Muslim brothers and sisters and indeed all Nigerians, to imbibe the
culture of peace, tolerance, love, sacrifice and unity which culminates in this
Occasion according to the Teachings of Prophet Muhammed.
“We insist that Nigeria’s unity cannot be overemphasized! We
therefore re-iterate on the Party’s Position for Nigerians peaceful
co-existence irrespective of our political, social, cultural and religious
differences; and urge all to eschew violence and stop all forms of provocative
utterances that are capable of disintegrating us and detrimental to our peace
and oneness.
“It appears that the Celebration may be low-key nationwide
due to the present harsh economic situation in the Country coupled with non
performance of the APC led Administration that has made life difficult for most
Nigerians.
“Notwithstanding, we urge the citizens of this great Nation
not to despair but to continue praying for God’s intervention.
“Finally, we wish Nigerians a peaceful and joyous
Celebration; and once again, we pray for the Recovery of President Muhammadu
Buhari and his safe return to the Country.”
