Nigerians should expect more corruption trials and
prosecutions, Minister of Information and Communication, Alhaji Lai Mohammed
has said.
Speaking at a town hall meeting yesterday in Abuja, Mohammed
said, “We have taken on corruption at its core. There are more prosecutions and
there will be more convictions for public sector corruption than Nigeria has
ever seen.”
He said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has
confronted corruption headlong in its first two years in office, adding that
“We have acted to address the leakages in government spending that make
corruption possible, through the zero- based budgeting and the Treasury Single
Account (TSA), the government’s efficiency unit and the hugely successful
whistle-blower policy.”
Also speaking, Minister of Power, Works and Housing,
Babatunde Fashola said the Federal Government created 193, 469 jobs in the last
two years through construction of roads, power projects and housing projects.
He said macro impact on jobs is gradually increasing the
purchasing power and money in the economy.
On his part, the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi
Amaechi said completion of the Itapke-Warri standard gauge rail line was now
uncertain as the National Assembly has removed the N60 billion provided for the
project in the 2017 Appropriation Act recently passed.
The minister said if the funds were not put back, then the
targeted completion date of first quarter 2018 won’t happen.
