The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has said he runs
his government like a “personal business” held in trust for the people and not
with the “mindset of being a government job.”
Okorocha made the remark when he received the new Commander
of the 34 Field Artillery Brigade Obinze, Brig. Gen. Hamza Ibrahim Bature at
the new Governor’s Lodge, Government House, Owerri, the state capital.
In the statement sent to DAILY POT by his aide, Mbidoaka
Livinus, the governor admonished the new Army Commander to work with passion as
that’s the only way to succeed.
Okorocha also reiterated his love for his state, saying “my
people come first before anything else.”
According to Okorocha, “I can see a connection between you
and me which is the passion to strive, my principle word as a governor is what
can we do to effect positive change in the lives of our people.
“The contact I have with anyone that comes to serve here is
the people of Imo state and that is the spirit with which I speak. I always
maintain that my people come first before anything else, the people remain the
pivot upon which the Rescue mission Agenda rotates.”
“I want you to join me in this drive, vision and passion to
move the people and state forward. I have hunger for success, despite the huge
development in the state I am not yet satisfied because I have not gotten the
Imo state of my dream. I am not working with the mindset of this being a
government job, I take it as a personal business held in trust for the people,
which must succeed.”
The governor assured the command of every assistance needed
to succeed and further advised the new commander saying, “this is an
opportunity for you to showcase what you can do and who you are as you may
never get the chance again. Wise men make good use of opportunity and the
unwise lets it go, he opined.”
Earlier on, Bature said he came to officially present
himself to the governor as the new commander and to pledge his support in
ensuring security in the state.
He said “our operation is guarded by the constitution and
the trust of our operation has been captured in the vision of the Chief of Army
Staff which is encapsulated as to have a professionally positive army in the
discharge of its constitutional roles.”
The new Commander also pledged his total support to the
government and people of theED state towards securing a peaceful and crime free
state.
