National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has advised intending
corps members mobilised for service to be vaccinated against meningitis
before reporting to orientation camps.
The orientation programme starts nationwide Tuesday May 23, 2017.
NYC Coordinator in Osun State, Emmanuel Attah, on
Saturday, said vaccination was necessary to prevent the intending corps
members from contracting the virus.
Attah reminded the corps members to come to the camp with
medical reports in order to know their medical status, adding that NYSC
doctors and competent doctors would be on ground.
“We know that the camping will coincide with the Ramadan
period and we have put necessary welfare package together to ensure that the
Muslims brothers and sisters are very comfortable during this period. In the
same vein, our officers have been well briefed on how to relate with the corps
member”, he told Punch.
“We are expecting 2300 corps members in Osun State and as
they come in I want to advise them on the medical challenges we are having in
the country such as Lassa fever, meningitis and the threat of Ebola that is
resurfacing once again.
“So I urged all prospective corps member to ensure
themselves vaccinated against meningitis before coming to camp. we are ready to
take care of them but this is just a preventive measures and also they are
strongly advice to report to camp their medical status.”
