Avoid Secret Meetings with Politicians, Buratai Warns Army Officers

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has warned Army Officers to steer clear of politics.

A statement yesterday by Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman said the Army Chief had received information that some individuals   approached some officers and soldiers for undisclosed political reasons.

Usman said on the basis of that, he has warned such persons to desist from these acts.
Usman said Buratai also reminded them that Nigerian Army is a thorough professional, disciplined, loyal and apolitical institution with clear constitutional roles and responsibilities.

He said, “Therefore, he seriously warned and advised all officers and soldiers interested in politics, to resign their commission or apply for voluntary discharge forthwith.”

He said any officer or soldier of Nigerian Army found  engaging in unprofessional conducts such as politicking, would have themselves to blame.

“The COAS has further reiterated that the Nigerian Army will remain apolitical and respect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the Army statement said.
