Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has reiterated that he
has no ambition to run for President in 2019.
El-Rufai said when he appeared as a guest on Hard Cover on
Channels TV on Friday.
The governor said he has always been accused of wanting to
run for President since 2007 which made late President Umar Yar’adua exile him.
He added that former President Goodluck Jonathan also
persecuted him because he saw him as a threat.
El-Rufai also said he never wanted to be governor but
President Muhammadu Buhari asked him to contest.
He said,” I have never wanted to run for President. I never
wanted to run for governor until President Buhari asked me to.”
When asked if he would run for President if Buhari asks him
to, he said, “I’ll look at it when the time comes. It is not something I have
given a thought to because I don’t care.
“I have no political ambition, I never had. Every government
job I have done, I was chosen on the basis of competence.”
Recall that after his memo to Buhari was leaked, there had
been accusations that he plans to contest the Presidential election in 2019.
