A Minna High Court will on Tuesday hear the case of alleged
fraud and abuse of office brought before it by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC), against former Niger State Governor Dr. Muazu
Babangida Aliyu.
The former governor was invited by the EFCC last week, over
alleged fraud to the tune of N5 billion perpetuated under his
administration.
The EFCC formerly filed the case against him and his former
Chief of Staff, Umar Nasko, at the state High Court last Thursday, our
correspondent learnt yesterday. The commission’s operatives and counsels were
said to have arrived the high court premises at about 2:00pm in two metallic
coloured Mercedes bus accompanied with a Toyota Hilux van conveying mobile
policemen.
The EFCC delegation then went straight to the chamber of the
State Chief Judge, Justice Maria Sanda Dzukogi’s office, where they formally
filed the case.
Daily Trust learnt that the case was then assigned to
Justice Mohammed Aliyu Maiyaki the same day.
Justice Maiyaki was the chairman of the Judicial Panel of
Inquiry set up by the embattled former governor to probe the administration of
late Engineer Abdukadir Kure. Our correspondent learnt that already counsels to
the embattled governor have already filed a motion to secure his bail before
the arraignment on Tuesday.
