After four days in the kidnappers’ den, the abducted monarch
of Iyani Akoko, Oba Joel Daudu, has been released on Tuesday.
Oba Daudu was abducted on Saturday by some unknown gunmen on
Ikare-Owo Expressway, demanding for a sum of N15 million ransom.
The abductors later called the family of the monarch and
announced the reduction of the ransom to N3million.
It was gathered that the traditional ruler was released by
the kidnappers at Ogbese in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State
on Tuesday evening, more than 50km where he was abducted.
The source however did not disclosed if the ransom was paid
before the monarch was released.
“We are not sure the ransom was paid or not, but all we can
say for now is that the Oba has been released at Ogbese,” the source stated.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of
the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the monarch had been set
free unhurt.
He said, “I can confirm that the monarch has been released
but I don’t have the details yet. But he is in our custody now at the D.P.O’s
office.”
Meanwhile, the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has
commended the security agencies in the state for the role played in the release
of the abducted traditional ruler.
Akeredolu, in a statement issued by his Chief Press
Secretary, Mr. Segun Ajiboye, assured the people of the state of his
administration’s commitment to their safety.
