ANAMBRA: OHANEZE NDIGBO HOLDS ELECTION, DAMIAN AFAM & 16 OTHERS EMERGE AS NEW LEADERS

The election into various positions in the Anambra state chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo was smoothly and peacefully conducted yesterday, 7th of January, 2017. Over 210 delegates from the 21 LGAs in Anambra state participated in the election. And having dissolved the out going Executive of the body, the stage became set for the election of new officers to fill the vacated positions. A total of 17 positions were contested for and the following candidates emerged as those that will pilot the affairs of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra state for the next four years.

11. Organizing Sec.: Mazi Emmanuel Obiajulu Awogu

Comrade Arinzechukwu Awogu served as the returning officer in the election as directed by the Chairman of the election committee, Gen. Joe Achuzia, while the third member of the election committee, Barr. Berth Nnamani administered the oath of office on the elected officials of the Igbo socio-cultural body.

The election was attested to be free and fair by the members of Ohaneze Ndigbo Anambra state chapter and in conjunction with independent observers, including the DSS who were present during the election.

The credit of the election however went to the governor of Anambra state, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano for his noninterference in the process of the election, allowing the people to freely and conscientiously elect those they deem feat to lead them. And also providing the enabling environment that ensured the peaceful conduct of the election. The newly elected Chairman of the body, Chief Okeke Damian Afam alluded this much in his acceptance speech when he said; "Gov. Willie Obiano is the reason for the success of this election. His actions in the course of this exercise made the election in Anambra state chapter of Ohaneze the best in the seven (7) states that make up Ohaneze Ndigbo."

Consequently, one can report authoritatively that there was no single protest or disquiet during and after the election but rather, jubilation and songs of a new dawn for Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra state rented the air.

Going by developments from the other six (6) states where Ohaneze state election was held, Anambra State appears to come tops. Kudos to the governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano, the Anambra state Ohaneze election committee and to Elder Chris Eluemuno and his out gone executive.
