The Ijaw Youth Congress has described the insistence on a
quit notice to Igbo people in the North by northern youths as a ploy by such
youths to loot the massive investments of Ndigbo in the area.
IYC President, Mr. Eric Omare, told our correspondent in a
telephone interview that there was nothing wrong for a part of the country to
seek self-determination, adding that they can stay in the North even after
achieving their objective of self-government.
Omare called on security agents to arrest those behind the
ultimatum issued to the Igbo, describing it as senseless, baseless and against
the United Nations Charter.
“The ultimatum to the Igbo by the northern youths is
senseless and baseless because the agitation of the Igbo people did not trample
on the rights of any northerner.
“We, however, support their call on the Federal Government
for a referendum for Igbo people. Self-determination does not necessarily mean
having a country of their own.
“We call on security agencies to go after those who gave
such an ultimatum. The ultimatum for the Igbo to quit the North is a way of
hiding under an umbrella to loot the massive investment of Igbo people in the
North,” the IYC president stressed.
